It is reported that the candidates of various political parties who are canvassing for this year’s local government polls have faced public opposition from various areas.
There is a news from Megalewa area that an incident of public protest escalated to a stabbing.
According to reports, a candidate residing in Udunuwaragama, Megalewa Counties, was on his way home from election campaigning in that area, and one of the residents attacked the candidate with a knife while returning from campaigning.
It is reported that the Meegaleva Police has stated that the National People’s Power candidate who was injured in the attack was admitted to the Meegalawa Hospital for treatment and then transferred to the Tambuttegama Hospital for further treatment.
It is reported that the person who was attacked has been arrested by the police and that the Meegalwa police are investigating the incident further.
It is reported that the arrested suspect was prepared to be presented to the Galgamuwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday (February 2).
