POULTRY PRICES WILL DROP FURTHER.

It is reported that Mr. Ajith Gunasekara, Chairman of the Animal Producers’ Association, said that during the discussion with the Minister of Trade, an agreement was reached regarding the price of chicken meat, and that there is a possibility of selling a kilogram of chicken meat, which is currently sold at 1,250 rupees, for 1,100 rupees during the December festive season.

Mr. Ajith Gunasekara, Chairman, who further commented on this,

“We have discussed with the Minister of Trade. According to that, we have calculated the production costs. After discussions, we have come to some agreement. Now there is no shortage of meat. Small and medium scale producers are producing at their maximum capacity. Accordingly, there will be no shortage in the future. We hope that by December the production capacity will increase and there will be a surplus. Accordingly, the price will decrease further. The government has given all the concessions to us to continue production. We hope that it will reach 1,100. The biggest problem is maize. If it is brought to Sri Lanka, maize It can be completely used for food. Then we can reduce our production cost. We have taken responsibility. There is no shortage and we can give it to us at less than this price during the festive season.”
