It is reported that the appointment of the Environment Minister will be decided after President Ranil Wickremesinghe’s visit to China.
As per a Supreme Court order, former Environment Minister Mr. Nasir Ahmed’s position as Member of Parliament was abolished and the position of Environment Minister became vacant.
It is reported that according to the provisions of the Constitution, the responsibility of the vacant position of Minister of Environment has been assigned to the President.
A senior government spokesman has said that President Ranil Wickramasinghe is on an official visit to China this weekend and will appoint an Environment Minister after his return to the island.
