PREPARING TO CANCEL THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTION.

The Parliamentary Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Local Government and Provincial Councils has proposed to cancel the local government election nominations and cancel that election as well.

It is reported that the nominations of the 80,672 candidates who were selected for the selection of 8,711 candidates for 24 Municipal Councils, 41 Municipal Councils and 275 Regional Councils and 340 local government bodies will be canceled in April.

Prime Minister Denesh Gunawardena has suggested that this proposal presented to the Parliamentary Advisory Committee on Public Administration, Home Affairs, Local Government and Provincial Councils which met in the Parliament last Wednesday (07) should be submitted to the Parliament.

During the long discussion of this proposal to cancel the nominations that have been obtained and cancel the local government election, the members of the committee have pointed out that the right thing to do is to cancel the election as the alliances that have been made have broken due to lack of votes.

Accordingly, it is reported that the representatives of the political parties have reached a decision to immediately bring to the Parliament a draft to cancel the nominations called for the local government elections.
