Prohibition on marrying foreigners.

It is mandatory to obtain the approval of the Registrar General in the marriage of Sri Lankan citizens with foreigners.
It is said that 1800 foreigners have married Sri Lankans within this year.
Information has been reported to the Ministry of Defense that Sri Lankan women are being married and they are being used for other illegal activities in foreign countries.
Based on these facts, the department has also focused on raising the age limit for marriage between local people and foreign people.
Registrar General Prabhat Abeywardena mentioned that the Prime Minister is preparing to amend the Marriage Register Act.
