This year, 7,647 dengue cases have been reported and 6,497 dengue cases have been reported in the month of January alone, and 1,150 cases have been reported in February, the epidemiology department said.
The highest number of dengue cases have been reported from Colombo, Gampaha and Puttalam districts and 1,000 cases each have been reported from Colombo and Gampaha districts alone.
In February, 218 dengue cases were reported from Colombo district, 172 cases from Puttalam district and 130 cases from Gampaha district.
The Department of Epidemiology has further stated that the highest number of patients have been reported from the Western Province.
