The Naula Public Health Inspectorate says that patients suffering from leishmaniasis due to sand flea bites are being reported from many village service domains in the Naula Regional Secretariat.
This information has been revealed in the investigation of the people who have received and are receiving treatment for the disease in Matale and Dambulla primary hospitals.
It is said that people in Naula – Nalanda, Ududeniya, the area around Naula town and Senagama village have received treatment for leishmaniasis.
Dr. Wijitha Ekanayake of the Naula Public Health Inspectorate has said in an inquiry regarding this that due to reasons such as not counting the wounds that do not cause skin pain, many patients have more wounds or developed wounds in this disease.
Dr. Wijitha Ekanayake has also said that the public can protect themselves from this condition by keeping the environment around the living houses clean, getting treatment as soon as they see sick conditions and being more careful about the surrounding environment.
