SECURITY OF ONLINE SYSTEMS BILL TO PARLIAMENT.

It is reported that the debate on the second reading of the bill on the security of online methods is scheduled to be held today (23).

The Parliament is scheduled to meet at 09.30 am, where the Public Security Minister Mr. Tiran Alas is going to present this bill to the Parliament.

Subject to the amendments presented by the Supreme Court, the approval of the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Media, Youth, Heritage and Modern Citizen was also received yesterday (22).

The Bill also provides for prohibiting the online communication of certain statements about an event in Sri Lanka and to prevent the use of online accounts and fake online accounts for their purposes.

In addition to this, the bill also provides for the identification of online sites used for prohibited activities in the country, making arrangements for publication, and for suppressing the provision of money and other assistance for communicating false statements about an incident. It is stated that

The Bill also provides for the establishment of a Commission on Security of Online Systems.

Mr. Tiran Alas, the Minister of Public Security, has mentioned that the debate regarding this bill will be held today and tomorrow (24).

However, the Samagi People’s Force says that they are protesting the sudden adoption of this bill.

Mr. Tissa Attanayake, Member of Parliament of that party, mentioned that the Speaker has also been informed about it.
