The Civil Aviation Authority has organized a special celebration today (09) to celebrate both the 110th anniversary of the beginning of the Sri Lankan Air Service and the 78th anniversary of the signing of the Chicago Convention for the regulation of the international aviation industry. says
On December 7, 1912, the first mechanically powered airplane took off from Sri Lanka 110 years ago.
Also, Mark Pope and George Vermin, two German nationals, converted the Colombo racecourse into an airport and successfully took off an airplane with mechanical power in this country.
