The Child Protection Authority has started an investigation regarding the expulsion of 17 students of a junior college in Gampola area for cutting their hair and not allowing them to appear for the term examination.

A group of students who are going to appear for the General Examination this year have faced this incident.

Yesterday morning (22nd) at around 8.30 am, before writing the answers to the technical subject paper of the term examination, the principal and vice-principal said that the hair of the students had grown long and took steps to cut their hair. After cutting his hair, he was expelled from school without being allowed to write the answers to the question paper.

Gampola Regional Director of Education Nihal Alahakon, when asked about this, said, “A committee of inquiry was appointed immediately after the incident. Proper investigations will be done and steps will be taken to inform the relevant authorities.
