There is a report of a conductor who was beaten and killed during an argument during a drunken party. The deceased Langama conductor was working in a Langama bus running from Monaragala to Katunayake. It is reported that the deceased conductor and bus driver used to stay at the Walana Sirisumana temple every day at the end of their journeys.
Like the previous day, they stayed in Viharastan at the end of their journey on the 23rd. A friend of theirs stayed with them that day. On that day, the three of them had been drinking and at that time there was an argument between the driver and the conductor and it is reported that the argument went so far that the driver hit the conductor with a broken bottle glass.
The conductor who was hit was admitted to Negombo Hospital by the driver and the other person. It is reported that the conductor died while receiving treatment there.
The driver of the bus has been taken into custody and the Katunayake Police state that further investigation is to be conducted regarding the incident.
