It is reported that the fifth session of the 09th Parliament is scheduled to be inaugurated tomorrow (07) under the chairmanship of President Ranil Wickramasinghe.
It is said that the President will present the government’s policy statement to the Parliament tomorrow at 10.30 am while presiding over the Parliament.
President Ranil Wickramasinghe adjourned the session of the Parliament with effect from midnight on the 26th of January.
Accordingly, the adjournment debate on the government’s policy statement to be presented to Parliament tomorrow is scheduled to be held on the next two days, 08 and 09.
However, it is reported that arrangements have been made to hold this year’s Parliament opening ceremony in a simple and elegant manner at a very low cost.
Minister Prasanna Ranatunga, the chief organizer of the ruling party, has mentioned that the ceremony does not include any features such as salute parades, salute shots, processions etc.
However, the MPs of the Northern Lanka Coalition have decided to boycott the opening ceremony of the Parliament which ended the session.
Member of Parliament Pujya Athuraliye Rathana Thero has mentioned that the group of MPs of the Northern Lanka Coalition which met yesterday took this decision.
