Trade Minister Nalin Fernando announced that the first batch of nearly 2 million eggs imported to the country by the Sri Lanka State Commercial Corporation will be brought to the island next Monday.
It is also reported that steps have been taken to revise the special commodity tax imposed on the import of eggs and the commodity tax of 50 rupees imposed on an egg by the Ministry of Finance will be reduced to one rupee on importation by the Sri Lanka State Statutory Corporation from February 21. The Ministry of Finance stated that the amendment will be valid for a period of three months.
