THE KANDY MUNICIPAL COUNCIL EMPLOYEES, WHO IRRIGATED THE ROAD LEADING TO THE VILLAGE, RETURNED AFTER LOADING STONES AND SAND IN THE FACE OF PUBLIC PROTEST

Due to the non-standard construction of the drainage system from in front of the Katugastota railway station to the vicinity of Dalada Pirivena temple on the Kahalla road, the people have not been able to travel on the main road on rainy days.

At some places on this road, the depth of the drains is equal to the road level, so the road is completely submerged during the rainy season and even school children are unable to wear shoes on the road. A week ago, the municipal council suddenly came and dug the drain from a place across a road, removed a good culvert, put a concrete drain and put a thin iron bridge section on the surface with some concrete planks. After that, because the water did not drain properly, the drain was filled with concrete, but in the face of people’s opposition, they had to return after loading stones.

The people demand that the expenses of such development activities, which waste government money without any technical method or supervision of the officials, be charged from the culprits and ordered to fix this drain system again.
