THE MAGISTRATE REJECTS THE REQUEST OF THE POLICE.

The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has rejected a request made by the police to issue an order to prevent the protest and march planned to be held in the Colombo Fort area this afternoon (08) by the United Union of Trade Unions against the government’s tax policy.

Magistrate Thilina Gamage has stated that the constitution has given the people the right to engage in peaceful protests and marches. But the magistrate has also stated that the police have the power to take action against any party who behaves in a riotous manner.
