Wasantha Ariyaratne, the Commissioner of the Department of Motor Transport, stated that as of December 31, 2010, 23,488 women had been issued driver’s licenses and between December 2020 and December 2020, there was a significant increase in the number of female applicants.
He also claims that 943,749 women have obtained driving licenses during this period.
The Commissioner further states that out of the total 12,700,000 drivers license holders in Sri Lanka, 1,122,418 are female driver license holders and 2082 women have obtained heavy vehicle licenses from this group.
