It is reported that the police officer who was seriously injured in the accident that happened yesterday evening (05) near the Kurunduwatta Free Roundabout in Colombo died early today (06).
It is said that while the concerned police officer was engaged in traffic handling duties, a car that crashed at the same time ran over the officer and went to the water pond in the roundabout and stopped.
The police constable who died in the incident was a 25-year-old resident of Walasmulla area.
A 27-year-old resident of Narahenpita area who was driving the car and working as a technical engineer in a private company has been arrested in connection with the accident.
The police also said that the arrested suspect’s father had voluntarily worked at the police hospital as an obstetrician and gynecologist many years ago at the request of the then former Inspector General of Police.
The doctor has also been given the rank of Deputy Senior Superintendent of Police.
However, the police have also stated that this doctor has left the police hospital many years ago
