Due to the existing social, economic and political breakdowns, Sri Lanka’s President Ranil Wickramasinghe is scheduled to present the government’s policy statement in Parliament at around 10.30 am (03).
The arrival of the invited guests will take place from around 09.30 this morning and after the arrival of the Members of Parliament, the Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and the Grand Clerk of the Parliament Dhammika Dasanayake will welcome the President near the main steps of the Parliament. The students of Colombo Devi Girls’ College are going to bless the President by singing Jayamangala Gatha near the main gate of the Parliament.
According to tradition, when the Speaker welcomes the President, the President’s Salute given by the Armed Forces is offered and this time also the same Salute is offered and the Presidential Flag is not hoisted. Instead, only the national flag will be hoisted and there will be no ceremonial firing or equestrian parades. The President has given instructions to conduct this event in a very elegant manner.
After the arrival of all the guests, followed by the tri-army salute, Chetradhari, Deputy Chetradhari and the Speaker were led by the Speaker and the General Secretary of the Parliament invited the President to the Parliament House.
