The spokesperson of the Catholic Church of Sri Lanka, Father Cyril Gamini Fernando has stated that it is unacceptable to give promotions and responsibilities to the senior police officers of the Sri Lanka Police who have been accused of not preventing the Easter attack and that the authorities are failing to take responsibility for the attack.
Father Cyril Gamini Prapranando said this while addressing a press conference held yesterday (9) at the official residence of the Archbishop of Borella.
He has stated that since the information has been received that they are trying to appoint those officials to higher positions in order to fulfill the wishes of the politicians, if such a step is taken, the Catholic Church will protest on that behalf.
He has also said that if such officers who could not prevent the Easter attack are appointed to the top or other positions in the police department, they will see the rulers as a mockery of the dead and disabled people of the Easter attack.
Also, DIG Deshbandu Tennakoon, Assistant Superintendent of Police Sisira Mendis and Katana Police Station Commander Chaminda Navaratne have been recommended to carry out disciplinary investigations against him in connection with the Easter Sunday attack.
