Peradeniya University is ranked 901 according to the university rankings of the US News Institute in the United States of America, according to its Vice-Chancellor Professor M.D. Lamawansa.
The Vice-Chancellor also said that Peradeniya was the first university to have such a place.
He expressed these views at the opening of the Peradeniya University Commemorative and Souvenir Center where the Chief Guest (23) will mainly participate.
Commemorative gifts, souvenirs, University insignia clothes etc. launched by the University of Peradeniya will be sold at this place.
Speaking after the opening of the new center, twelve thousand universities and thirty thousand institutes of higher education were classified and announced about it.
The vice-chancellor said that world universities were ranked based on their performance through thirteen excellence indicators, which included global research reputation, regional research reputation, publications, conferences, etc.
Generalized citations, total citations, total citations cited, and international collaboration are given special attention in this classification.
It has been further mentioned that Peradeniya was the only university in the world to have achieved this ranking, and that the teaching staff and the academic institute are grateful to all the undergraduate students who contributed on behalf of the vice-chancellor.
