THREE FARMER COUNCILORS DECIDE THE PRICE OF PADDY.

It is reported that the Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera, said that according to the request of the farmers’ representatives from the Minister of Agriculture, three farmers’ representatives were appointed to represent the 25 districts for the rice price determination committee based on the agreement of the representatives of the farmers’ organizations in all the 25 districts.

Also, the minister further mentioned that 10 billion rupees have been allocated for the purchase of paddy and if the money is not enough, the president has decided to allocate another 10 billion rupees.

Also, it is reported that the purchase of paddy in this season is not done by the Paddy Marketing Board and for that the government has taken steps to do the purchase of paddy by the Divisional Secretaries and District Secretaries.
