It is reported that the National Tsunami Disaster Rehearsal Program is scheduled to be conducted today (04) from 9.30 am to 11.30 am in Trincomalee, Galle and Matara districts.
Retired Major General Sudanta Ranasinghe, Director General of the Disaster Management Center who explains in this regard,
“After the Tsunami in 2004, if such a disaster occurs again in the Indian Ocean region, immediately informing all the countries in this region of this risk information. According to the procedures prepared by those countries, a process of evacuating people at risk is carried out every two years in coordination with UNESCO and An implementation is being carried out under the Indian Ocean Early Warning Program. Accordingly, at 9.30 this morning, awareness of the tsunami risk and an evacuation rehearsal will be carried out.”
