It is reported that a trade union action initiated by the university’s non-academic staff workers on the basis of a salary issue will continue for the second day today (13).
Mr. KLDG Richmond, joint secretary of the Inter-University Trade Union General Conference, has stated that the trade union action will continue until 4.30 pm today.
“Yesterday at 12 noon, the non-academic staff of all 17 national universities in the island resigned. The main reason for this is that we were promised in the discussion on the 22nd of January that the salary cut in the universities will be corrected. It still hasn’t been fixed. So the strike is on. If the authorities do not provide solutions to this, we will have to resort to a continuous strike from next week.”
