It is reported that the National Water Supply and Drainage Board has requested the people to use water sparingly due to the prevailing dry weather.
The Board’s Deputy General Manager Development, Ms. Anoja Kaluvarachchi stated that if the dry weather condition lasts for more than two months, water will have to be provided on a shift basis.
However, she said that the current water level is sufficient and requested that water be used only for essential purposes whenever possible.
“Our own water source, Kalatuwa reservoir, has water supply for 65 days for the next two months. Labugama reservoir has water for 105 days. We hope it will rain. Water supply to consumers has not been restricted. However, if there is a decrease or non-availability of water to some customers, they can call the 24-hour phone number 1919. We are working to provide a solution for that. Also, water can be supplied to essential places by bowser.”
