At the intersection of Weligama Denipitiya Mullabokka road yesterday (15th) at around 9.40 pm, two unknown persons who came on a motorcycle opened fire on two persons who were traveling on a scooter type motorcycle.
A 52-year-old resident of Pelana area, Kamal Chaminda, has lost his life due to this shooting. It is said that the 20-year-old son of the person who lost his life was injured. The injured person has been admitted to Matara Hospital for treatment.
When the shooters opened fire, the deceased’s son fled from the spot and he chased him and opened fire. He was reportedly shot in the chest and arm.
The police said that a T56 firearm was used for the shooting and that the shooters used about 20 bullets from the ammunition casings scattered in the surrounding area.
Also, the police have further mentioned that the deceased is a member of the underworld and there are many offenses against him.
The body of the person who lost his life has been deposited in the Matara Hospital and the police are conducting investigations at the scene of the shooting. Also, it is reported that the Special Task Force, Weligama Police and officers of several nearby police stations have started investigations to find the shooters.
