Ahuth Nilame temple has been mortgaged.
The paper was sold to non-believers
Divisional secretaries took bribes
After the rulers who have no feeling about their country, race and religion get into office, they loot or pawn all their property to fulfill their ulterior motives. All the problems of the divisional secretaries were exposed here.
Here, Mr. Valisundara has stated that the deed of the Kataragama temple site in Kandy has been mortgaged to a People’s Bank branch for 13 lakhs and that he has also sold a replica of the Kandy temple to non-believers. It was further mentioned that the Nilames of Basnayaka worked to turn the temple grounds into a burial ground.
Mr. Valisundara further states that the voting system is the reason for all these matters and five of the nine secretaries of the Kandy District Regional Council, thinking only of their own advantage in appointing the Nilames, gave way to corrupt figures.
Further, Mr. Valisundara has stated that the Commissioner of Buddhist Affairs was in a deep sleep until the idol of the temple was sold and leased to the infidels in accordance with the Temple Temples Act No. 19 of 1931 and the persons involved in any way to cause destruction were equally punished. Mr. Valisundara has further emphasized that the Mahanayake Theros and District Divisional Secretaries should act according to the Temples and Temples Act.
