WILL THE LIGHT BILL BE REDUCED?

Today (08) while answering a question raised by opposition leader Mr. Sajith Premadasa regarding the electricity bill in Parliament, Mr. Kanchana Wijesekera, the Minister of Power and Energy, stated that if the opposition supports the new electricity generation program, it is possible to reduce the electricity bill by next July.

“The opposition leader raised a wrong question. He said that the government took a decision on the strong objection of the Public Utilities Commission. The approval was obtained with the consent of the majority of members. It is wrong to call the objection of one member as the objection of the entire commission. There are five members of the commission.”

“There is not one person in the Public Utilities Commission. The plan is to implement the generation plan in the right way. We present proposals to reduce corruption and fraud in the board. But some people are working against them. Some trade union administrators are working by leaning the government against the wall. We are continuously supplying electricity today. The electricity cut has stopped. Our generation plan should be changed. Due to charging of these charges, we were able to provide electricity continuously. When this generation plan is implemented, we will be able to reduce the electricity bill by December. If we can reduce it in July, we will do it. The plan to restructure the electricity board is for a month. It is presented inside. Give your support to that plan. Then the electricity bill can be reduced by the month of July.”
