The Leader of the JVP Anura Dissanayake stated in the recent Parliament that the farming community is not engaged in farming for a hobby and that they solve all the problems in their lives with the income earned from this farming.
He points out that the decision to ban chemical fertilizers is not a decision to be taken “by word of mouth” or “by body”.
Farmers carry out their farming activities by mortgaging or borrowing everything they have and there is no doubt that they are in a desperate situation.
“We talk about agriculture from the cold rooms, but farmers are facing challenges to their livelihoods and mortgaging their lives.”
