The Attorney General has informed the Supreme Court that Fr. Cyril Gamini will not be arrested at this time.
The decision was taken after considering a petition filed by Fr. Cyril Gamini in the Supreme Court today (08) seeking an injunction restraining his arrest.
On the 3rd of this month, Fr. Cyril Gamini requested the court to prevent his arrest following a complaint lodged by the Director General of the State Intelligence Service, Suresh Saleh, regarding a statement made in connection with the Easter attack.
Accordingly, the relevant petition is being considered in the Supreme Court today.
The CID had recently informed the priest to come and make a statement regarding the complaint and he had requested for a week to do so.
He had then written a letter to the CID on the 3rd through his lawyers stating that he would not appear before the CID on that day to give a statement as he had already filed a petition before the Supreme Court.
Accordingly, the Attorney General has informed the court today that Fr. Cyril Gamini will not be arrested at this moment.
