Eight days later a complaint was lodged against DIG Ranmal.
DIG Ranmal Kodithuwakku is one of the most talked about senior police officers these days. A video of a youth being assaulted in the Kiriella area was circulated on social media recently. But it was reported after studying the video that we follow up on legal theories and by chance that it was not an assault. It is reported that he has been transferred as a punishment.
A few days after the incident, a complaint was lodged with the Hon. President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa against the police officer. It is reported that it has been submitted by a law firm. By law, an incident must be reported as soon as it occurs and hospitalization must have taken place. It is not reported that the complaint was made on the basis of accepted legal principles.
The young man who was involved in the incident was drunk and had a small scratch on his neck, according to medical reports. Apart from that, there are no reports in the medical reports that he had any other complications. However, it is clear that the young man was behaving violently at the time.
We reported that the young man could be prosecuted for several offenses. His father was a lawyer and social media had protested against the young man’s behavior. It states that the young man used the power of his father’s job to cause trouble to the society. It is not appropriate to make mistakes on the highway or to harass other people while intoxicated.
Editor’s note
When we look at the latest situation in the above case, we see that there is no legal basis in this complaint. If the young man was drunk, if he was drunk and violently walking down the road, it is clear that he has taken the law into his own hands. It is the responsibility of all citizens to take the law into their own hands and not to obstruct others on the highway.
If their father is a lawyer, it is their responsibility to create such children in the society. Lawyers are a responsible part of society in Sri Lankan society. They can think of the inconvenience to their clients if their children are not socialized properly. The police speak of society as a highly disreputable institution for various offenses, but with a hateful look at everything, the institution further degrades and the equality of the law is further undermined.
However, the complaint against Ranmal shows that there is a plan to embarrass the police officers. It seems that some other tactic is being used. Otherwise, it is possible that clashes between senior police officers could have erupted through various tactics, police sources confirmed. It is the responsibility of the present senior officers of the police to protect the dignity of the police who are paid from public funds by keeping them in the police station without throwing out the garbage of the police. We all need to inquire about how the rule of law operates in Sri Lanka.
However, if a complaint has been lodged against any public servant, it is the responsibility of the competent authorities to take action against that complaint under Section II of the Establishments Code. In particular, a formal inquiry should be conducted under Section II of the Establishments Code and the preliminary inquiries should be carried out in accordance with paragraph 13.
