Galpaya area in Ratnapura in serious danger.
It is reported that about 4 timber lorries transport timber daily around the Galpaya area in the Ratnapura District. It is estimated that there are about 120 lorries a month. It is also reported that large trees have been cut down in the reserve belonging to the Bambaragala Forest Hermitage and a Kumbuk tree near the old Bo tree in the forest had been cut down last night and another tree had been cut down the night before. This type of deforestation is also taking place and large sand dunes are being activated in the area. Sociologists and environmentalists warn that this could be the case and that they could be left destitute. But it is reported that the majority of the people have no responsibility for it and they do not think about the future generation but about their future.
