MINISTERS AND MPS BANNED FROM TRAVELLING ABROAD DURING THE BUDGET PERIOD

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has banned MPs, ministers and officials from traveling abroad before the announcement of the government’s second budget to be presented to parliament next Friday.

Accordingly, the Secretaries of all Ministries and State Ministries have been informed in a circular not to participate in any official or private foreign visits during this budget period and to contribute fully to the budget debate during that period.

The circular also states that instead of traveling abroad for special occasions, the relevant representation could be given to the Embassy through the Ministry of External Affairs.

Basil Rajapaksa, Minister of Finance is scheduled to present the Budget for the year 2022 to Parliament next Friday at 02.00 pm and this is the first budget presentation of the new Minister of Finance.
