At the moment I am staying in the newest village in Sri Lanka. It is sure to have become a world-famous village by now. Russia, Ukraine and Sri Lanka are the three most talked about countries in the world right now. As those two countries erupted in the flames of war, Sri Lanka became a nation of people suffering from food, electricity and gas problems.
Today is the Sinhala and Hindu New Year in Sri Lanka. Thousands of people around Galle Face Green have been fighting against the President and the government for days. Today people from different parts of Sri Lanka have come to this place. The groups from different areas have named their areas as ‘Gota Go Gama – Bandarawela Branch’ and ‘Gota GO Gama – Anuradhapura Branch’. In this area, which is full of different food items, you can clearly see all races and religions living peacefully under the same lion flag.
There are already various New Year festivities here. This morning all the nations participated together in the auspicious event of the fire burning and the milk was saved. The Maha Sangha added their blessings for that. In addition to one main venue, other youngsters joined in the milk saving festival at several venues. (Watch the video below)
This was followed by a New Year celebration with various folk sports. Adding to all of those folk sports were the latest creations that reflected the current struggle. Instead of keeping an eye on the elephant, they kept an eye on Gota.
He also said that a police officer in uniform was supporting the struggle and that the batons and tear gas were being used for the future of their own children or the future of their children. However, there is no confirmation as to whether he is a true police officer. ((Watch the video below)
Special attention is being paid to war heroes in the battlefield. War disabled war veterans are also present at this place.
Meanwhile, His Excellency the President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had issued a New Year message this morning regarding the rights of children.
