The Sri Ravana Lanka National Organization had lodged a complaint on 11.10.2021 against Pradeep Nilanga Dela, the lay guardian of the Temple of the Tooth, the Crown Jewel of the Buddhist community in the Senkadagala area in the Upcountry. The complaint contains about 43 charges.
The Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs Sunanda Kariyapperuma had inquired about the complaint yesterday (02) and he had stated that he had not received it. Accordingly, action has been taken to send the relevant letter again through the W App along with the registered postal receipt. Although he claimed that he did not receive the letter 20 days later, the incident has been published in the media as well as on social networking sites, but he himself has stated that it is surprising that he did not know about it.
However, Ravana Lanka National Organization spokesman Himal Ekanayake said that plans are afoot to file a fundamental rights case against the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs and a criminal case against the Constitution.
It was also stated that a person involved in these incidents had promised to give the post of District Secretary for the Commissioner General and that the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs would not enforce the law against them out of greed for the post of District Secretary. It is further stated that even His Excellency the President has been misled into postponing the election of Basnayake Nilames to be held in Devalas. It is reported that the necessary foundation has been laid to protect the corrupt Basnayake Nilames by misleading the President.
He further stated that a number of legal actions are being taken against the former Commissioners of Buddhist Affairs who have retired despite allegations of bribery and have assisted in fraud, corruption and illegal sale of lands in the Temple of the Tooth.
We look forward to the future as the Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs is the competent authority to enforce the law without breaking the law.
