Dr. Omalpe Sobhitha Thera addressing the media in Mawanella today (29) spoke about the current law enforcement in Sri Lanka and the problems regarding fertilizers. His statement is given below.
“This is a questionable ploy to appoint a Presidential Task Force to recommend that a country be one law. One country is the Republican law of Sri Lanka. The only thing that is needed is the implementation of this law. The government is setting up new committees because it recognizes that the government is not currently implementing a republican constitution. What is needed is the enforcement of the law of society in a fair manner. At present, the law in Sri Lanka is one law for those who work against the state in one way or another. Another law for the common people of the country. Ordinary people have to go to court for many years. But those in political authority are a week or two away. Many are free. The Attorney General of our country is biased. The present Attorney General does not even have the self-confidence to enforce the law properly. One day such a case will be filed under the relevant information and it will be removed. What will happen to the inconvenience caused to the victims? The President should implement the constitution. It is a big problem for the economy as well as the situation that has arisen in Sri Lanka during this period, ”he said.
He also commented on organic fertilizer.
“Farmers across the country are facing severe inconvenience due to the use of organic fertilizer. It is better for the government to take a direct decision on the use of organic fertilizer. But it had to be implemented in a timely manner. It is wrong to import organic fertilizer. If organic fertilizer is imported to Sri Lanka from any country in the world, it is up to the scientists and experts in our country to check whether it is suitable for our country. They are the ones who have to make all the decisions in that regard. The manure ship goes on its way and comes back. The name is being changed. Maybe just give the manure on this ship. It is not fair for people who are politically biased to make decisions on such matters. Should be involved in these activities. Scholars and professionals who prioritize non-partisanship. At present the Bodhiraja Foundation produces a large quantity of organic fertilizer per month. If the government, including the President, provides us with the necessary facilities, we can increase this amount and provide some fertilizer to the farmers even if it is free. We see people from different political parties claiming compensation for the losses incurred by farmers. We have to ask whether compensation is sufficient. How will people get the food they need in the future? If there is a food shortage we have to import the required grains to Sri Lanka. These things contain chemicals, that is, toxic food substances, ”he said.
He also spoke on the demise of Ven. Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Thero.
