Pear growers who grow only in a very limited area in the Nuwara Eliya District have not been able to sell their produce this time. According to them, the manufactured pears have now been fed to compost and animal feed. It is also stated that these plantations could become extinct in Nuwara Eliya as the pear trees there are close to 50 years old.
They also requested the government to provide some assistance to protect this valuable, pears plantation grown only in this part of Sri Lanka.
