PRESIDENT MEETS INDIAN PRIME MINISTER NARENDRA MODHI

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa met at the United Nations Conference on Climate Change in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to foreign media reports, the two were engaged in a cordial conversation.

Also, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote on his Twitter account that it was a pleasure to meet President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa in Glasgow.

The conference was attended by about 25,000 people representing a number of sectors, including heads of state, government representatives, businessmen from 197 countries around the world, and Narendra Modi stated that he hopes to achieve carbon neutrality by 2070.

The United States and the European Union have pledged to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050, and China has said it expects to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2060.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has stated at the Glasgow Summit that Sri Lanka will work towards achieving that goal by the year 2050.
