A study of the Sinopharm vaccine has revealed that the T-cell response of Sri Lankans against the corona virus continues to be maintained by the Sinopharm vaccine.
Chandima Jeewandara, Director, Unit of Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, said that over time, the immunity to Sinopharm vaccine has been declining in all age groups.
He made the remarks after conducting a study on the antibody-generating and T-cell response to the Sinopharm vaccine, and said that even 12 weeks after the second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine, the Covid virus’s response to T-cells remained the same. .
The team concluded that there was a significant decrease in the production of antibodies against the virus in people over the age of 60, and that further study was needed in the event of hospitalization and worsening of immunity.
