SRI LANKA ASSISTS INDIA IN INVESTIGATIONS INTO FORMER LTTE CADRES

Former LTTE Sri Lanka’s security forces have stated their full support for Pakistan ‘s investigation into arms and heroin trafficking.

According to foreign media reports, the Indian National Investigation Agency has decided to seek the assistance of the Sri Lankan government for the investigation.

The National Investigation Agency of India (NIA) has made a written request to the Government of Sri Lanka to obtain information on the suspects under the Mutual Legal Assistance Agreement, which will be assisted by the Sri Lankan Ministry of Defense, with the assistance of Sri Lankan intelligence.

Six Sri Lankans were arrested by the Indian Coast Guard in March with a fishing vessel carrying weapons and heroin smuggled into the country from Pakistan.

According to foreign media reports, a member of the LTTE intelligence unit and three other Sri Lankans were arrested during the investigation into the incident.
