The government has decided to remove the control price imposed on sugar so far.
With the removal of the price control, the wholesale price of a kilo of sugar will be between Rs. 135-140 from tomorrow (03) and it has been decided to keep the retail price of a kilo of sugar within the Rs. 150 limit.
Nihal Seneviratne, Vice President of the Sri Lanka Sugar Importers Association stated that 976 containers carrying essential items are stuck at the port.
He has also stated that the Minister of Finance has agreed to provide the required amount of US dollars to release the containers containing the sugar stocks.
