Ven. Murutthettuwe Ananda Thera has been appointed as the new Chancellor of the University of Colombo.
It is reported that the Colombo University Students’ Union has objected to this.
In a letter to President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, the Students’ Union has stated that the post of Vice Chancellor, which is considered a symbol of honor at a university, is a lofty post and should not be a political appointment made according to a political agenda.
The Students’ Union has also informed the President that this appointment is strongly condemned by the entire student community.
