The Lady Ridgeway Children’s Hospital in Sri Lanka is currently full of Covid infected children and has also rented a building at Rajagiriya to treat Covid infected children.
In the early days, 5-6 children were admitted to the hospital per day, but now it is reported that up to 15-20 children are admitted on some days. The third wave of the epidemic has treated about 500 children and more than 350 mothers, and as of last Monday, all six beds in the intensive care unit were full and the number of children in critical condition had not increased.
However, there is no reduction in the number of Covid infections in Sri Lanka at present. As at 10.00 pm yesterday (06), a total of 324,223 Covid patients were admitted to the hospital, 31,095 were treated and 2,794 new patients were reported on that day and a total of 288,307 were discharged from hospitals. The total death toll was 4,919.
