A youth was killed when he was hit by a train while attempting to take a selfie at the Kallaru Bridge in Settikulam, Vavuniya this morning (05).
Police stated that two youths had attempted to take a selfie from the bridge when the train was traveling from Talaimannar to Medawachchiya when it had fallen on the tracks and collided with the train.
It is also reported that the other youth had jumped into the water and survived by observing the train approaching.
The victim was identified as Francis Kanna, 19, of Murunkan, Mannar. The other victim was admitted to the Settikulam Hospital with injuries.
The body of the youth who died in the accident has been placed at the Settikulam Hospital morgue and the Settikulam Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
