Heenmanika, the wife of Vanniyala Aththan, the leader of the oldest community in Sri Lanka, was laid to rest at the Mahiyanganaya Pradeshiya Sabha crematorium this evening.
The body was taken to Mahiyanganaya at around 11.30 this afternoon with police protection after receiving the Vanniyalaa Aththan from the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital. It was done respectfully.
Many aborigines were quarantined, but the funeral was conducted according to traditional customs with the participation of a few aborigines.
She was 64 years old at the time of her death and was the mother of nine children. She died of Covid infection.
