Traders and consumers point out that sugar prices have risen sharply so far.
It is reported that traders are selling sugar in excess of the control price imposed on sugar and there is no sugar in the market at present.
It is reported that there is a shortage of sugar in some areas at present and Minister of State Janaka Wakkumbura has stated that the price of local sugar will not be allowed to increase and that steps will be taken to control the price by importing sugar.
