Violent crime In a rare Japanese Tokyo passenger train, a man stabbed and injured 10 people. The 36-year-old suspect told police he was “angry” to see women “happy” and wanted to kill them.

Security has been beefed up in Tokyo, where the Olympics are being held, and one schoolgirl has been seriously injured in the attack.

The driver of the train stopped abruptly due to the noise in the cabin and the attack took place near the Sejogakun railway station at around 20.40 (BST 11.40) on Friday.

Our correspondent in Japan said that the suspect had fled first and that the train crew had guided the passengers on the train to the nearest railway station.

The BBC reports that one witness told to  the NHK news service that people who fled from one car to another suddenly started running towards the suspect.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police confirmed this morning that one person had been arrested in connection with the incident but did not provide further details about the man arrested.

Nine of the injured have been hospitalized. In Kawasaki, Japan, one of the safest countries in the world, a mob attacked a group of students waiting for a bus to arrive in 2019, killing two and injuring 18 others.

Nine of the 10 injured were hospitalized and the other was evacuated.
