Weligepola Divisional Secretary Government sells. They sleep in the forest of death …?
A communication tower belonging to Mobitel is currently under construction in the Madawala Landa Grama Niladhari Division of the Weligepola Divisional Secretariat. Although many believe that the tower is being built on government land, Rawana explorers have now discovered that it is being built on private land. Also, the owner of this private land has built a highway through the reserve land nearby. It is said that the trees belonging to the reserve have been cut down and it has been done in a very secret manner but the Grama Niladhari has also been found to have done so knowingly and according to them the land is known as the Italian estate.
Informed sources also questioned the owner of the land on how to get electricity to the communication tower. He had stated that he had only given the land and that he would receive a monthly rent of Rs. 20,000.00 from Mobitel for the land. He also states that Mr. Madawalalanda Grama Sevaka, the officials of the Pradeshiya Sabha and the Divisional Secretary are very close to him.
Neighboring villagers say that it would be surprising if the Weligepola Divisional Secretary allowed the destruction of state-owned property by destroying the environment, even though he could have provided the necessary facilities for electricity from his own land if the land had been rented out. They also point out that this destruction would not have taken place if electricity had been provided through the land of the person who rented the land to obtain this electricity. Also, if this is true, it would be a disgrace to the government led by His Excellency the President.
Instead of destroying a forest reserve and building it on another state-owned land instead of paying a monthly rent to one person, the public would say that the revenue would go to the government itself and forged deeds to these lands as well.
