The Marine Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA) has said it plans to remove the Express Pearl, which caught fire recently, and the containers that sank in the blaze later this month or early next month.
It is said that the company that owns the Express Pearl has called for tenders for the removal of the ship.
The shipping company has stated that tenders have been submitted by 08 companies for the removal of the ship and which company has been selected will be announced by next Friday.
The Chairman of the Marine Environment Protection Authority, Attorney-at-Law Dharshani Lahadapura stated that investigations are currently being carried out using special machinery into the sunken containers on board the ship.
