The Ministry of Health says that the World Bank has taken steps to provide US $ 73 million for the purchase of medicines.
It is reported that the World Bank will provide the amount in two tranches, first US $ 23 million and then the remaining US $ 50 million.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has also agreed to set aside US $ 21.8 million for other activities in the health sector to expedite the purchase of medicines.
The Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella stated this morning that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has agreed to allocate another US $ 45 million for the purchase of medicines in addition to that amount.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka is to receive another US $ 200 million worth of drugs under the Indian loan assistance program.
